Money might not buy you love, but it can buy you a house, which is pretty much the same thing. Okay, it isn’t the same thing, but there are plenty of houses for sale in MI that would like to be the home where your heart is. And with nine different regions in Michigan to choose from, there’s a house for just about every budget and lifestyle.
Southeast Michigan is where to go if you like to be in the thick of things. According to Michigan.gov, “A journey through the region leads you to college towns and quiet escapes, rural landscapes and a foodie’s paradise. See charming downtowns, cultural centers and Americana at its best, all in the same day.” This region is home to Lansing, the state capital and the heart of Michigan politics. Right next door is East Lansing, land of the Michigan State Spartans. Southeast Michigan is also where you’ll find Ann Arbor where blood pumps maize and blue during University of Michigan football games. And there is also Detroit, the state’s largest, and coolest, city.
Head west and you’ll find yourself on the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan. According to Michigan.gov, “Known for quaint beachtowns and miles of sandy beaches, the opportunities to enjoy the best of the Lake Michigan shoreline are endless” in Southwest Michigan. Tucked away on the west is the diverse city of Saugatuck, with its sandy dunes and beautiful beaches. It’s a summer escape so great you might want to live there year round! Then there’s Kalamazoo, which calls itself “the place with a big city mindset and a small town heart.” Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University, one of Michigan’s largest institutes of higher education. Go Broncos!
If you drive north along the Lake Michigan shoreline, you’ll end up in Michigan’s West Central region. “Home to thriving urban centers as well as some of Michigan’s most pristine shoreline, the West Central region of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula is inviting and exciting,” claims Michigan.gov. Steeped in art culture, great food, and a bubbling craft beer scene, Grand Rapids is a lovely place to visit and a great place to live.
If you’re looking to explore the state’s thumb you’ll find yourself in East Central Michigan. “From the shores of Saginaw Bay and up around the Thumb of Michigan’s lower peninsula,” boasts Michigan.gov, “The East Central region of the state is rich with family-friendly destinations as well as a bounty of hidden gems.” You can have a famous chicken dinner in Frankenmuth (known affectionately as “Michigan’s little Bavaria”) after you’ve shopped ’til you dropped at the outlet mall in Birch Run or after you’ve “discovered the Blue shore” in Port Huron.
If you’re not a city guy or gal, then you’ll definitely want to explore Northeast and Northwest Michigan, more commonly referred to by Michigan natives as “Up North” (not to be confused with the Upper Peninsula). It is here where you’ll find the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, which has been called, and rightly so, “the most beautiful place in America.” After you shake the sand out of your shoes, grab some wine and cherry pie in Traverse City. At some point you’ll definitely want to take a trip to Mackinaw Island, though save some time to explore Mackinaw City, “the gateway to Mackinac Island and the Upper Peninsula.”
Speaking of the Upper Peninsula, the three regions that make up what the natives call “the U.P.” boast some beautiful, untouched wilderness. It is also where you’ll find the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, a National Park with breathtaking scenery.
So no matter where you land The Mitten, there are always houses for sale in MI. Here’s hoping that you will find yours!
